Image Guided Breast Biopsy
“Detection to Diagnosis in the shortest possible time” is ARYA STANA BONE & BREAST CARE’s unique approach to providing immediate care with a minimally invasive breast biopsy. Why wait weeks when you can get results in few days or less?
We understand that news that you need to have a breast biopsy raises many concerns and anxiety – should a breast surgical assessment be deemed necessary breast surgeon referrals can be arranged.
Breast biopsy, which is the removal of breast tissue for examination under the microscope, is the only definitive way to diagnose the nature of a breast mass, lump, or calcification.
An image guided biopsy may be recommended, if an area of concern is found on your mammogram or ultrasound examination. Small samples of tissue are taken from the area of concern or abnormality and are sent to the Pathologist for evaluation.
This allows the patient to undergo a minimally invasive procedure under local anaesthesia instead of undergoing more invasive surgery, usually requiring general anaesthesia, to obtain a diagnosis.
A wide range of Image Guided Breast Biopsies are offered at ARYA STANA BONE & BREAST CARE.
Ultrasound Guided Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy and Breast Core Biopsy
Ultrasound guided biopsy is used to evaluate an area of concern or a mass in the breast that is visible on a breast ultrasound exam or a palpable mass. Using a local anesthetic to numb the biopsy area, the ultrasound probe is place over the area of the breast lump and the radiologist guides the biopsy needle directly into the mass. Tissue samples are taken and sent to pathology for analysis.
Stereotactic Guided Core Biopsy and Vacuum Assisted Core Biopsy
A stereotactic breast biopsy is most helpful when mammography shows a mass, a cluster of microcalcifications, or an area of abnormal tissue change but no lump can be felt.
